Good Things To Know

MATS ARE ALL OFFICIALLY LICENSED. They have been purchased and customized with foiling by myself. Mats have a rubber back, and a soft fabric top. Standard playmat size applies for the respective type, unless otherwise noted.

The foiling process is done in a way that ensures cards glide smoothly without edges catching. Check out That's It, I'm Box Shaming to see a video of a Champion mat that's been rolled many times to see the way the foiling holds up! It took about half a year to get my website ready and a big part of that was because I spent a long time trying out many different materials to find what not only looked pretty but was also functional. Material differs drastically, so many are too thick, not flexible enough (or at all), or just had a plastic look which in my opinion is the last thing foiling should look like. After months of searching I finally found what I was looking for - specialty material that is professional-grade, producing lovely foiled results. Foiling is stretchy to move with the mat, and thin so there's no catching. Additionally, I put quite a bit of effort into designs, many taking several hours to an entire day to finish. I've started over completely on designs that just weren't right. Over a dozen mats were lost along the way, necessary sacrifices; I wouldn't settle for "good enough" I tried my best to bring you all the best ♥

All mats have a slight texture to their foiling. Why? Prior to adding this final step to the process, I realized that while playing I was constantly irritated by fingerprints. Makeup may be part of it, but just oils from skin in general are the real culprit. I was forever wiping prints away from the foiling, something in my brain just couldn't handle any messiness tarnishing the beauty of the mat. The simple solution was to add a bit of texture. This allows the foiling to take on the texture of the mat itself, which greatly reduces scratches as well. I foil with holographic &  metallic material: the metallic foiling has a sort of brushed metal effect, so by adding texture to the holographic material it all feels more cohesive. I feel it looks more intentional, like it could have been produced that way at the factory, rather than the material just sitting on top of the mat. Not only does this really drive the foiling into the mat for an even better bond, the texture creates a kind of multi-faceted look when the light reflects off of it, and the reflection of light plays a big part in what makes the foil pop. Mats will look different depending on the lighting, brighter light will produce a colorful array of shiny hues, dimmer light will produce less of the holographic effect. Some angles and lighting can make the foiling look simply silver/gold. They're ever-changing!

Before texture- see all those fingerprints?! Ick.

After texture- foiling doesn’t smudge and catch fingerprints the way it does without the added splash of texture. Yay!

Your mat is as unique as you are! Even if two of the same mat were to be purchased in the same order, I don't think I'll ever make two 100% exactly alike. There is a great deal of hands-on involvement when making these, many of my designs are very detailed. While I am quite finicky about perfection, I am also only human. Due to the nature of foiling, there is always a non-zero chance that imperfections exist. I try my very best to eliminate material with visible blemishes, however, striations and other slight imperfections may be present that aren't pronounced until after the completion of a mat. I have no control over this, and any potential flaw that may arise is assessed post-production. Any minor factory flaws such as specks or variation in shine/texture etc. in the foiling material will not be considered as damage or a defect for the mat as a whole, but rather simply a visual representation of life and how it is perfectly imperfect.

It's important to note that some mats are just naturally smoother or rougher than others from the factory, for example the Lorcana mats Tinker Bell and Rapunzel, I have no idea why but they are not as silky smooth on the top of the mat as others. It's just something to be aware of, I have no control over that.

Resolutions vary between different screens, if a color doesn't look 100% the way it did when you viewed it online, I truly offer my apology for any discrepancy. However, along with resolution, my lighting for photos may be different as well. There are so many ways the foiling can appear depending on the angle/lighting. Only incorrect mats received are eligible for return. More information regarding return/refund policy can be found here.
